Peaceful protests work! And we do them on a regular basis. In fact, one of the pet stores that we protest at has seen a drop in puppy sales. We are also involved with passing animal welfare related laws. We conduct pet store inspections so that all pet stores comply with their state's laws regarding pet store puppies and kittens sales.
We are all smiles at one of our peaceful protests. We get a lot of good feedback from this. Many people driving by ask questions about what a puppy mill puppy is. Some have no idea so we really educate them. We get tons of supports with honks and waves. It actually is a positive experience. And we will continue protesting. We love to have new people join us and promote our cause so come along!
Here we are at the preliminary hearing in Montgomery County, Maryland. We were instrumental in getting a ban on all puppy and kitten sales in pet stores. The county council said it was the most supportive law they had ever passed. This law went into effect in March of 2015. Need-less-to-say, this was a huge victory for us and the innocent animals. Pet stores in Montgomery County will only be able to adopt out companion animals. No pet store will be able to sell them.
Lobby days in the state house are very productive. Each of us meet with our legislators and discuss animal welfare laws. We work with both the ASPCA and Humane Society. This picture was taken when we were involved with the ASPCA's lobby day. Right now we are working on a total ban on puppy and kitten sales in the state of Maryland. We testified earlier in 2015. The bill got tabled until the future. The good news is that it didn't die on arrival. We will keep pushing on.
